Where every fact on this site comes from, and how far each source can be trusted
Every raag on this site was checked against at least two sources of different lineage. A fact is treated as corroborated only when two lineages agree: the Raga Guide or another tier-1 book, tanarang (Gwalior pedagogy), Parrikar (the Ramrang line), or a Wikipedia page that itself cites a tier-1 book. Aggregators are listed for completeness but are not counted as independent votes. The ras assigned to each raag is a reading of the mood language in these sources, weighted by tier, with a confidence grade shown in each raag's detail panel. The full working is in the research notes and the evidence file.
Sarngadeva's Sangita Ratnakara (13th century); Meshakarna (1570); Somanatha's Raga Vibodha (1609); Damodara's Sangita Darpana (c. 1625); Ahobala's Sangita Parijata (1665); Faqirullah's Rag Darpan (1666); Lochana's Raga Tarangini; Pratap Singh's Sangit Sar (c. 1800); the ragamala paintings catalogued in the Raga Guide. These supply the oldest mood assignments and are cited on the raag pages through the Raga Guide and Parrikar, not consulted directly.
Rao et al., Bi-Sampling Approach to Classify Music Mood leveraging Raga-Rasa Association (arXiv 2203.06583, 2022): its raga–rasa table is Carnatic-heavy and rests on unnamed "expert opinion". Swarganga's database was read but not cited, as it states no methodology.
